Abstract

The purpose of this study was: (1) to determine construct validity for a geriatric version of the Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment (LOTCA-G) battery; and (2) to provide standards for elderly performance on the LOTCA. Based on clinical experience and LOTCA sub tests analysis, the adapted version was developed and pilot tested. Using the original LOTCA and the new version LOTCA-G, a sample of 43 healthy independent elderly and 33 CVA patients all over 70 years of age were assessed. Results show significant differences between CVA patients and healthy elderly persons on almost all sub tests of the LOTCA-G, supporting construct validity. Length of time to perform the battery was significantly shorter for healthy persons. The new version was found to be reliable and valid for elderly who are slow in their function. The LOTCA-G is recommended for these individuals, as well as for other populations where the time component is important.
