Abstract
Constrained interleaved coded spatial modulation (CICSM) is introduced to best map coded bits in spatial modulation (SM) systems to achieve the highest possible minimum symbol Hamming distance and the highest possible minimum squared Euclidean distance. CICSM extends the known constrained interleaved coded modulation technique to spatial modulation. Joint coding and independent coding versions of CICSM are developed with normal mapping and higher-dimensional mapping. Powerful CICSM schemes that perform better than known coded SM schemes in the literature are designed with simple outer block codes.
