Abstract

The aim of this study was to delineate the contributions of Cognitive-Behavioral Psychology in the methods of intervention targeted toward people with autism and to identify areas that need further study, designed to further development of social behaviors. Seventeen studies published between 2001 and 2010 were used to review and behavioral techniques as the most suitable for intervention in autism. Few techniques were found, and research on cognitive stimulation and virtual environments can be promising in the area. Only four papers related their results to age or deficits of participants and\or comparing the effectiveness of techniques. Thus, further studies on these two themes are recommended.
