Abstract

The European Journal of Anaesthesiology (EJA) has become one of the leading publications of our speciality. Starting 17 years ago as a rather modest publication of the European Academy of Anaesthesiology (EAA), the EJA today attracts researchers from all over Europe and abroad to publish their scientific material of good quality and invites well-known authorities to write excellent educational and scientific overviews for its readers. Today the EJA stands on almost all shelves of institutional libraries and in many private libraries. The Board of the Confederation of European National Societies of Anaesthesiology (CENSA) is proud now to join the European Journal of Anaesthesiology as its official and only publication. CENSA is the successor of the European Regional Section of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists. CENSA was created at the European Congress 1998 in Frankfurt and is governed by the new Executive Board. CENSA consists of 37 National European Member Societies with a total of almost 40 000 individual members. Whereas in the past the main activities of its predecessor ERS lay in coorganizing a European Congress with a National Society every fourth year, CENSA has brought in educational projects - mainly in former Eastern Europe and is involved in a number of projects dealing with the future of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine in Europe. Together with other European Bodies of Anaesthesiology such as the EAA, ESA, FEEA and UEMS, CENSA strongly supports the unification of European Anaesthesiology in order to strengthen the power and influence of our speciality. Joining the EJA means for CENSA and the other organizations the acceptance of this Journal as a common platform for publishing science, education and business. CENSA highly recommends the EJA for all its Member Societies including all their individual members. It is hoped that this new joint venture will positively affect the future of Anaesthesiology in all National Member Societies of Anaesthesiology in Europe. Prof. Dr med.
