Abstract

The conductivity effective mass of PbS and GaAs samples have been determined from measurements of the frequency of the reflectivity minimum in the air infrared. An increase in conductivity effective mass with increasing carrier density has been found in both materials. The conductivity effective mass values obtained are considerably smaller than those from susceptibility measurements. The Fermi energy has also been determined for PbS samples.
