Abstract

A hybrid computational method for predicting the magnetic field in the vicinity of an underground three-phase pipe-type cable is presented in this paper. This hybrid method combines the numerical techniques of the finite element method and the unimoment method. An iterative solution procedure is developed and employed to treat the nonlinear B-H characteristic of the steel pipe. To validate the computational method, measurements were made and the numerical results are compared with the measured data and with the results obtained previously by using a different numerical method. The result of the comparison is satisfactory.
