Abstract

Over the last two years the number of vocational training teachers has been taken into account in the publication of statistics concerning sectors of activity. Previously, this issue had either been completely ignored or not taken seriously. When the statistics are compared with those provided by the French national institute of economic and statistical information (INSEE), they are found to be strikingly different. This is a result either of different definitions having been used (whether it be face-to-face teaching or the declaration of belonging to an occupational group) or the different methods of gathering information. INSEE surveys have shown that over the last twenty years there has been a demographic explosion in occupations and socio-professional categories concerning vocational teaching (+ 410% in the employment survey) and that vocational teaching is a weakly unified category, especially in terms of employment status.
