Abstract

This paper analyzes all switching patterns of a matrix converter under various input power factors and load power factors. Matrix converter has 27 switching modes and 4 switching modes are chosen in order to control an output voltage and an input current at the same time. Totally, there are 1278 switching patterns of the matrix converter. According to the algorithm of the control strategy of the matrix converter, several switching patterns are used. However, selected switching patterns are not optimized. This paper discusses optimized switching patterns for reducing an output voltage distortion, an input current distortion, or switching loss when a modulation index, input power factor and load power factor are changed. The output voltage and input current distortion are evaluated by an instantaneous effective values theory. In this paper, a space vector modulation with optimized switching patterns is proposed and compared several control strategies of the matrix converter in order to clear the optimized switching patterns.
