Abstract
The rhizome of Cnidium officinale Makino was found to contain pregnenolone (1) and coniferyl ferulate (2), and also nine hydroxyphthalide derivatives (4-12) which were optically inactive except 12. Most of them were supposed to be derived secondarily from the major volatile alkylphthalides.
