Abstract

Abstract Fourteen new lanthanide nitrate and perchlorate complexes of 1-benzoyl-2-(2′-hydroxy-1′-napthylidene) hydrazine (BHNH) having the general formula [Ln(BHNH)2X] (where Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy and Y and X = NO3 and C104) have been synthesized. They have been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, molecular weight and electronic and infrared spectral data. In these complexes, BHNH acts as a monovalent terdentate ligand, the carbonyl oxygen, azomethine nitrogen and phenolic oxygen being the donor atoms. The anions, nitrate and perchlorate are also coordinated to the central lanthanide ion.
