Abstract

1. The specific retention volumes, the differential molar free energies, enthalpies, and entropies of sorption for twelve pyridine bases have been determined by gas chromatography on columns containing equimolar amounts of the salts sodium orthophosphate and potassium fluoride, with hydrogenated Apiezon L as the stationary phase. 2. Alkylpyridines form donor-acceptor complexes with sodium orthophosphate and the thermodynamic characteristics of complex formation have been calculated. 3. A method is proposed for calculating the temperature limit of complex formation under chromatography conditions and the stability temperatures of the complexes have been determined.
