Abstract

Mannheimia varigena is an occasional respiratory pathogen of cattle and pigs. We present the first four complete closed genome sequences of this species.

Highlights

  • Species identification of M. varigena isolates was verified on the OmniLog microbial identification system (Biolog, Hayward, CA)

  • We thank the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL), South Dakota State Diagnostic Laboratory, and Prairie Diagnostic Services for their provision of an isolate sequenced in this study

Summary

Introduction

Species identification of M. varigena isolates was verified on the OmniLog microbial identification system (Biolog, Hayward, CA). Genomic DNA of M. varigena isolates USDA-ARS-USMARC1261, -1296, -1312, and -1388 was extracted using a blood and cell culture DNA kit (Qiagen, Valencia CA). Reads were assembled using Celera assembler version 7 [5], which produced a single large contig for each isolate that was validated and improved using Quiver [6].
