Abstract

Based on a survey of managing directors and senior marketing executives in Japanese companies with manufacturing plants in the UK (63% response rate) the study reports on a number of critical success factors which distinguish the performance of these firms from UK competitors. Contrary to much anecdotal commentary the Japanese firms in the study place great importance on research and technology. They also emphasise speed in bringing new products to the market and enjoy sufficient cost advantage to buy and defend market share in Europe post 1992.
