Abstract

Results are in for the fourth edition of the most comprehensive survey of dietetics compensation available, and the news for most dietetics practitioners is positive. The Compensation & Benefits Survey of the Dietetics Profession 2009, sponsored by the American Dietetic Association (ADA), shows that registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs), experienced wage gains substantially higher than inflation since the 2007 survey. RD median annualized wages are now at $56,700, up from $53,000 in 2007; DTR median annualized wages are now $39,000, up from $36,000. Wage gains varied by specific dietetics position, with some surging and a few lagging. The importance of increasing education, responsibility, and supervisory authority to increase compensation is apparent. And dietetics practitioners continue to receive attractive benefits packages.
