Abstract

Image segmentation is the process of identifying groups of pixels, which means it is the process of partitioning a digital image into multiple segments that is sets of pixels. The objective of image segmentation is to simplify and/or change the representation of an image into something which is more meaningful and easier to analyse. Many image segmentation algorithms have been developed for segmenting the parts from an image. Though the algorithms have some advantages and disadvantages, some of these perform better than others for specific regions and specific type of images. In this paper, all possible segmentation methods have studied and compared. The segmentation process can be performed by using MATLAB 7.10.0 (R2010a). The performance of all techniques can be evaluated segmentation evaluation parameters, such as rand index (RI), global consistency error (GCE) and so on. The segmentation output shows that the Canny's algorithm performed better segmentation, compared with other techniques.
