Abstract

Three commercially available flame photometric detectors (FPD) in the sulfur mode have been evaluated by comparing the parameters of dynamic range, linearity, minimum detection limit, sensitivity, peak shape, selectivity, and ease of operation. Sulfur compounds used for this study included hydrogen sulfide, carbonyl sulfide, and sulfur dioxide. The experimental parameters were kept as nearly identical as possible for the three systems with only minor equipment modifications being necessary. The selection of an FPD should be based on the intended use because none of the systems proved to be superior in all categories. 5 figures, 4 tables.
