Abstract

YbB 12 is a typical Kondo insulator with an energy gap E g ∼100 K. It has a cubic symmetry, but the gap closing field shows anisotropy when magnetic field is applied. CeOs 4 Sb 12 shows weak insulating behavior below 50 T. It, however, should be a semimetal according to the rule that most Ce-skutterudite compounds with lattice constant larger than 8.5 Angstrom are semimetal, and a reason for the weak insulating behavior is still unknown. We construct aproapriate tight-binding band models for these compounds and investigate the magnetic field effects on them.
