Summary

Methods

The study population consisted of 13 men (mean (SD) age, 64 (12) years) with severe chronic heart failure and chronic atrial fibrillation with a long QRS (168 (15) ms). Eight patients had left bundle branch block and five had a non-specific intraventricular conduction block. The mean left ventricular ejection fraction was 24 (8)%. Ten patients were in NYHA functional class III and three were in class IV. We selected patients with chronic atrial fibrillation who had undergone His bundle ablation so as to exclude the possibility that atrioventricular delay or intra-atrial/interatrial conduction block influenced the haemodynamic measurements
