Abstract
Mechanical coupling factors needed in the statistical-energy method for the determination of the response of vehicles to acoustic fields are very difficult to calculate. The coupling factor for a simple structure was calculated by two methods and the answers are compared. They differ by a factor of 5. This indicates the difficulty and uncertainty encountered in the calculation of the coupling loss factor.
