Abstract

Parthenium hysterophorus is the most invasive weed in India. It competes with crop plants for their nutrients and water. It affects the growth and yield of many crops. Among those green gram is more susceptible. This weed can be controlled by the use of various chemical herbicides, but they can cause environmental pollution and dangerous diseases. Allelopathic potential of many plants have been evolved to control this weed. Herbicidal activity of Datura metal and Nerium oleander were investigated in this work. In this experimental protocol various parameters like carbohydrate, protein, amino acids, total phenol, chlorophyll, carotenoid and enzyme levels of crop plants were analyzed and compared with control. Based on the results, the plant extracts D. metal showed the significant changes in protein, chlorophyll, carotenoid and enzymes compared with control. So the present studies concluded that 15 % concentration of D. metal showed better results in controlling the weeds without affecting the crop.
