Abstract

Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of lichtenstein surgery and modified Kugel surgery in the treatment of inguinal hernia. Methods According to a randomized controlled study, 150 patients with inguinal hernia from Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery of our hospital from January 2015 to December 2016 were randomly divided into lichtenstein group (group A), modified Kugel group (group B). Observed operation time, average hospital cost, postoperative complications (surgical pain, scrotal hematoma or seroma, surgical infection, recurrence after surgery) of the two groups. Results The operation time of group A and group B were (29±6)min and (35±9)min, with statistically significant difference (P 0.05). There was 1 case of hernia recurrence in group A, but no case of hernia recurrence in group B. Conclusions Lichtenstein surgery and modified Kugel surgery in the treatment of inguinal hernia are safe and effective. The operation time and the hospital cost of modified Kugel surgery are higher than those of lichtenstein surgery, but modified Kugel surgery maybe reduce the recurrence of hernia. Key words: Lichtenstein surgery; Modified Kugel surgery; Inguinal hernia; Tension-free hernia repair
