Abstract

The achene characteristics and combining ability of branching and non‐branching near‐isogenic restorer lines were compared. Branching lines were considerably higher in oil content but had smaller achenes than the non‐branching forms. There was no difference in achene yield, oil content, and achene size between hybrids using branching and non‐branching restorer lines as male parents.
