Abstract

In this paper, 2-D ultrasonic physical modeling is used to study the visco-elastic properties of some non-metallic materials commonly used in physical model experiment. The physical modeling data of homogeneous media are compared with numerical results in frequency domain. The time domain comparisons between the numerical modeling and the physical modeling are also shown by three examples. The aim of the comparison is to select appropriate visco-elastic models in numerical modeling of different materials. It is also shown that neglection of viscosity of material like PVC, which has high viscosity, will result in change of waveform in synthetic seismogram.
