Abstract

Objective To compare the application of biologic mesh (bovine pericardium) manufactured by Beijing Balance Medical Technology Company with polypropylene mesh in the tension-free inguinal hernioplasty, to evaluate the value of Balance acellular tissue matrix (ACTM) in the tension-free inguinal hernioplasty. Methods With a prospective study from May 2010 to March 2011 in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University, the patients were randomized divided into two groups, 66 people in each. The trial group was performed with bovine pericardium biologic mesh, and the control group used polypropylene mesh. The clinical parameters before and after surgery and the incidence of various complications were recorded, and the data were statistically analyzed. Results Statistical analysis was performed on the short-term efficacy, preoperative and postoperative clinical parameters and postoperative complications of the two groups. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of operation time, hospitalization stay, short-term efficacy, preoperative clinical parameters and postoperative complications. Conclusion Balance acellular tissue matrix is a safe and reliable material for inguinal hernioplasty. Key words: Hernia, inguinal; Herniolasty; Acellular tissue matrix
