Abstract

This paper summarizes systematic experiments on the adfreeze bond strength between sea ice and construction materials used for offshore structures, such as steel and concrete, as well as various coating materials. As a result of comparing test methods to determine the adfreeze bond strength between ice and the materials of structures, very little difference was observed among these methods. We also confirmed that the adfreeze bond strength depends more on the coarseness of the surface of construction materials than on the free surface energy on the surface.
