Abstract

This study deals with the biomechanical analysis of a human tooth using Finite Element Method (FEM). For the analysis, a three-dimensional (3D) CAD model of the human tooth is modelled from the online available tooth scanning data in dicom format, which is processed using ITK-Snap and Meshlab software to generate a file in iges format. The tooth’s CAD model in iges format is imported in a FEM based software called Ansys. The analysis is performed using five materials namely, natural tooth material, Gold, Zirconia, Commercially Pure Titanium (CP Ti) alloy, and Ceramics. All the five considered materials are analysed for the same boundary and compressive loading conditions. The resulting stresses and deformations are compared for the different considered materials.
