Abstract

AbstractThe simulation and measurement results relative to the radiation characteristics of dielectric disk antennas with the axial‐symmetric excitation are presented. The compact dielectric disk antenna with the −10 dB impedance bandwidth of Δf = 4.1 GHz and mono‐beam radiation pattern is manufactured and tested. The excitation more than one resonances and formation of the multi‐beam radiation pattern for antenna with substrate radius rs > 45 mm is explained by the appearance of standing waves along the substrate radius. The choice of relation between the dielectric disk radius and substrate height allows for designing a set of antennas operating from f = 5–21.77 GHz. At that the bandwidth and gain of antennas are changed within the limits 1.6 < Δf < 2.7 GHz and 4 < G < 6 dBi, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
