Abstract

The Commercial and Technical Library is established for the benefit of those concerned in buying, or selling, or manufacturing to sell. The commercial library when fulfilling its purpose becomes, indeed, a reflection of current events in the business world. Public Commercial Libraries have been in operation a sufficient length of time to prove that this ideal is practicable. The commercial library which is housed in a separate establishment entails two obvious disadvantages: duplication of certain stock and the loss to business men of more resources of the reference department than could possibly be withdrawn for Commercial Library purposes. Certain classes of commercial and technical works are of service in most commercial libraries wherever situated. The Public Library Movement having created this greater expectation must, by mobilising the valuable matter contained in the stocks of commercial libraries, transform the library into a clearing-house of commercial information.
