Abstract

The commentator draws attention to the fact that hardly any scientific study has been made of the process of educating control engineers. Some results of Educational Research are cited to emphasise that many beliefs about higher education are unfounded. The four papers presented in this session are discussed briefly. With a view to the limited amount of time available for discussion and the overwhelming many-sidedness of higher education in automatic control, a tentative classification of subjects is suggested for use as a guide to the discussion. Finally, a bibliography on higher education in automatic control is presented.
