Abstract
Possibleetiologiesinclude:increasedmetabolic expenditure, decreased heat loss due to lack ofhyperventilation as a result of pain relief, thermoregulatorychanges induced by epidural analgesia, direct effects of localanesthetics on the central nervous system, paralysis of thesudoriferous glands which reduce heat loss, non-infectiousinflammatory processes and intrapartum infection, amongothers.
