Abstract

This review covers 25 years' experience in the management of 233 previously untreated cases of invasive cancer of the cervix. The results have convinced the authors that the extended Wertheim hysterectomy followed by deep pelvic radiation is an acceptable treatment for this disease. In fact, this treatment in skilled hands excels that of either modality alone and should be utilized more freely than it is today. The five-year survival rates warrant world-wide comparison—especially in cases of cancer of the cervix complicated by pregnancy, of the cervical stump, and of adenocarcinoma of the cervix, as well as in cases with nodal metastasis.
