Abstract

In a previous paper we provided an analytical solution for the problem of diffraction of plane surface waves by a suspended hollow cylindrical shell structure. Following on from that work, in this paper we formulate and solve the related problem of radiation of ocean waves by an oscillating surface pressure within the cylinder. We find that the same technique of reducing the problem to an infinite system of linear simultaneous equations can still be employed, and use this technique to find a rapidly converging solution. We present an analysis of convergence and accuracy for the radiation problem, as well as results for the combined diffraction-radiation problem, which we obtain by a linear superposition of the two wave fields.
