Abstract

A solid state combinatorial chemistry approach has been adopted for the synthesis of Eu2+ and Ce3+-doped compositions comprising of AE-Sc-Si-O-N (AE = Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) in search of a novel phosphor for the application in phosphor converted white light emitting diodes (pc-WLEDs). An extensive powder X-ray diffraction analysis reveals discovery of a novel phosphor in Mg-Sc-Si-O-N system. The discovered phosphor was novel in the sense that the XRD pattern do not matches with any available crystallographic information data base (ICDD or ICSD) and no study has been carried out on such system. Ce3+-doped Mg-Sc-Si-O-N phosphor shows an acceptable blue color under UV lamp (365 nm) while Eu2+-doped Mg-Sc-Si-O-N phosphor show a negligibly small emission.
