Abstract
This paper explores the potential of color in the architectural design of space habitats. The isolation and confinement of space architecture environments, where life and work may be carried out for extended periods of time, require design planning. The environments need to be sensitive to all factors that contribute to both the success of the intended function of an environment, and the mental and physical comfort of its users. For these environments to be responsive to human needs, the fragmented knowledge on color needs to be integrated. The interdisciplinary approach adopted bridges the physical and quantifiable aspects of color and its subjective and aesthetic dimensions. This paper reinforces the importance of the role of the architect in the field of environmental design at large, and in particular in connection with the exploration of the color phenomenon in the design of space habitats.
