Abstract

The collective excitation modes in an alkali metal intercalated transition metal dichalcogenide, e.g. , Li x TiS 2 , consisting of alternating layers of electrons and alkali ions are investigated. Two kinds of structure factors are introduced. One is concerned with the structure of the same kind of carriers and the other with the structure of a different kind of carriers. The obtained dispersion equation has the same form as that of the electron-hole system in type II semiconductor super-lattices. The theory suggests the possibility of existence of acoustic plasma modes.
