Abstract

Abstract Development of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) represent one of the primary goals of knowledge- based global economy. After globalization of Indian economy, many MSMEs are not able to cope up with the stringent quality standards of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). MSMEs stimulate private ownership and entrepreneurship. They do not get needed support from the State Industry Development Corporations (SIDCO) to solve their problems. Hence, they need support to develop their employees and manage the enterprises to meet the demands of the fast- changing technology and severe competition from foreign companies under World Trade Organization (WTO). They have to solve many complex problems like quality, production, sustainability and cost effectiveness. The author established an innovative postgraduate program, viz, Master of Technology in Human Resource Development [M. Tech. (HRD)] in 2001. One of the objectives of this program is to evolve procedures for planning, reviewing and evaluating the human resource (HR) problems of industry, collect data, analyze and offer valuable solutions to them. To improve the problem- solving skills and also to know the human resource development of MSMEs, the postgraduate students have been exposed to MSMEs in the Southern Region. To overcome the disruptions, the students have been guided to collaborate with the MSMEs, government companies, and polytechnic colleges to solve their human resource and technology problems through students’ dissertation. The development process created to overcome the disruption is presented due to OEMs.
