Abstract

Modulated optical excitation of alkali atoms transversally to a magnetic field enables a coherence transfer between different atomic species if the pumping conditions are properly chosen. We analyze the influence of pump-light intensity and modulation sequence on the transfer efficiency and present experimental results for K Rb and Cs Rb mixtures. For the first time experimental evidence of a strong correlation between the free transient evolutions of two alkali atomic spin systems with different g-factors without the use of radio-frequency fields is given.
