Abstract
The effect of coagulation conditions [coagulation bath temperature (T cb), coagulation bath water concentration (C cb), and air gap distance (D ag)] during the dry-jet wet-spinning process on the surface morphology, microstructures, and mechanical properties of dihydroxy poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (DHPBO) nascent fibers was investigated. The coagulation bath system was polyphosphoric acid (PPA)/H2O and the stretch ratio was kept as 1.7. The crystal characteristics, microstructures, and mechanical properties of the DHPBO nascent fibers were characterized by XRD, SEM, and single-fiber tensile testing. The results indicate that when the T cb was 25°C, C cb was 10% and D ag was 30 cm, DHPBO nascent fibers with fine crystallites, circular and smooth morphology, and excellent mechanical properties can be achieved.
