Abstract
We analyze and solve in closed form the population balance equations describing abrasion-dominated fragmentation processes and abrasion processes in the presence of chemical dissolution kinetics. The fragmentation model proposed takes into account that abrasion, at each breakup event, generates a manifold of smaller fragments characterized by a continuous distribution, with the constrain that the mass of fines produced at each breakup event is constant. The kinetic model for abrasion is applied to experimental data available in the literature.
