Abstract
ObJective To investigate the clinical effect of the nasal septum chondro mucosal flap in the reconstruction of severe full-thickness eyelid defects after the surgery of malignant eyelid tumors. Methods Among the 19 eyes of 19 patients treated with full-thickness eyelid defects of half or more palpebral length after the surgery of malignant eyelid tumors, the nasal septum chondro mucosal flap was grafted to replace the posterior layers of the eyelid (the tarsus and the conjunctiva) while periocular orbicularis muscular flaps were utilized to reconstruct the anterior layers of the eyelid (the skin and muscular layer). Results All patients were followed for 5 to 54 months, averaged 28 months. The flaps and hard palate mucosal grafts existed well in all cases.Grafts were observed and satisfactory aesthetic and functional results were achieved. Conclusions Grafting of the nasal septum chondro mucosal flap can repair full-thickness eyelid defects of half or more palpebral length after the surgery of malignant eyelid tumors with definite and good outcome.
