Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical significance of serum value of kynurenic acid(KYNA) and KYNA/tryptophan (TRP) ratio (KA/T) in patients with schizophrenia(SCH). Methods The SCH patients (n=73) were divided into two groups (drug-naive, first episode patients, patients undergoing antipsychotic treatment) and the concentrations of serum KYNA, TRP in the Sch and health control(n=108) were measured. Results Compared with healthy control, there were significantly increased concentrations of serum KYNA and TRP in the drug-naive, first episode patients, and the serum KYNA and KA/T ratio were significantly decreased in patients undergoing antipsychotic treatment. Conclusion It showed that antipsychotic treatment may decrease the concentration of KYNA and value of KA/T. Key words: High performance liquid chromatography; Kynurenic acid; Tryptophan; Schizophrenia
