Abstract

Clinical psychology is the science that studies the psychological factors involved in health and illness. This field focuses both on the aspects of health promotion and prevention of pathology, as well as on the aspects of psychological treatment of disorders that involve psychological mechanisms in the pathogenesis. Recent studies examining the general population prevalence and severity of mental disorders show that among the most common disorders are anxiety disorders (eg, panic disorders, social phobia), mood disorders (depression), impulse control disorders (eg, panic disorder intermittent explosiveness), addictions (alcohol, drug abuse).
