Abstract

Because empirical calculation methods OF arc flash for dc systems do not yet exist, several types of models and equation approaches are available for use with varying degrees of success in estimating a conservative thermal incident energy (IE) estimate for dc power systems. One of the unknown variables for any of these calculations is the clearing time of any protective devices, which may relate to the system configuration.
