Abstract

A circularly polarized and compact dual-band antenna with an inverted F-shaped structure is proposed in this paper. The designed antenna covers an area of size 60 × 60 mm2 and its substrate thickness is 1 mm, made up of FR4 epoxy substrate. Initially, an L-shaped patch is designed and by further modification, the patch turns around to be an F-shaped patch. Then by introducing two rectangular slots of different sizes at the opposite corners of the ground plane, the 3 dB axial ratio is achieved. Though, having a simple designed structure, it gives a good agreement towards the realization of circular polarization. The simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth covers a frequency range of 5.1 to 7 GHz (31.4 %) and 7.5 to 11.1 GHz (38.7 %) whereas the axial ratio ranges from 5.3 to 6.8 GHz (24.8 %) and 7.8 to 10.8 GHz (32.3 %) in the lower and upper band frequency respectively. The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated which operates in the UWB range.
