Abstract

This paper presents methods for approximating circular arcs using quintic polynomial curves. Different boundary conditions are considered in the approximation methods, thus resulting approximation curves with G 2, G 3, or G 4 continuities at the circular arc's ends. The resulting approximation radial errors are generally very small and converge at the eighth or tenth power of the circular arc's angular span.
