Abstract

The sociologist Max Weber concluded his exposition on the question of church and state by affirming that the state and the church are the most important social groupings.1 It is quite important, therefore, to establish their respective places in society. The present article will deal with (1) the concept of the state, especially from the Marxist viewpoint; (2) the concept of religious freedom, especially from the Marxist viewpoint; (3) the relationship of church and state under the Constitution and laws of Yugoslavia; and (4) religion in Yugoslavia according to contemporary sociological research.
