Abstract

The demands on existing document management systems and staff are enormous. Today's document management marketplace requires systems that can handle large volumes of documents, multiple electronic formats, elaborate review and approval processes, worldwide user communities, and regulatory agency validation and audit requirements. Recent technological advances, such as relational databases, graphical user interface tools, and client-server products, encourage development of very powerful systems. The capabilities of these systems, however, must be carefully coordinated with similar advances in the document management processes of the user community. This paper reviews a software development methodology that has been specifically constructed to meet this challenge.
