An extensive survey of Chinese Newspapers and Periodicals in the United States, which are presently published in the United States was conducted in 1995. The Chinese newspapers and periodicals in the United States have played a major role in maintaining the identity, cohesiveness, and structure of Chinese communities. They are the major sources which represent Chinese culture, heritage, historical and present development of Chinese community in the United States. They are the important media for the Chinese in America to communicate with Americans and other ethnic groups. They are the unique primary and secondary sources for historical and sociological study of Chinese Americans and their lives, social, political, and economic status in the United States. Two principal methodologies were applied for the research: survey and bibliographic analysis. A specially designed questionnaire was sent to the known editors. The survey results update the current status of Chinese American newspapers and periodicals in the United States.
