Abstract
Reaction of 2-nitro-fluorene-9-carboxylic acid with SOCl2 unexpectedly gave 2 dimeric carbonyl chlorides (2a and 2b) whose structure was determined on the basis of NMR and mass spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. The same methods also allowed to establish the stereochemistry of the compounds obtained.
