Abstract

Novel organomineral sorbents have been prepared by the method of chemical grafting of vinylpyridines and N-vinylpyrrolidone to silica surfaces. A kinetic study has been made of the graft copolymerization of vinylpyridines and vinyl silica gel (silica gel with vinyl groups deposited on its surface by treatment with vinyltrichlorosilane). The reaction rate constants have been determined at 60, 70 and 80° (0·034, 0·128 and 0·376 hr −1 (mole/l.) − 1 2 respectively) as well as the activation energy of the process (25, 900 cal/mole). Some physicochemical properties of the resulting organomineral sorbents are described.
